The CPD Certificate in Holistic Counselling and Lifestyle Coaching
This certificate course has been withdrawn, with effect from 24th January 2021.
By popular demand, we now offer a certificate of continuing professional development, which teaches you how to work with clients who have emotional or life problems linked to their poor lifestyle choices in the areas of nutrition and physical activity. The mode of delivery is ‘open/distance learning’, because so many interested individuals live outside of the North of England.
If you have at least a certificate in counselling, (and preferably a diploma or equivalent) then you will get our CPD certificate with a ‘Counselling Specialism’ endorsement. And if you have at least a certificate in coaching, (and preferably a diploma or equivalent) then you will get the ‘Coaching Specialism’ endorsement.
In practice, the certificates will be headed like this:
The CPD Certificate in Holistic Counselling and Lifestyle Coaching – (Counselling Specialism: Diet, Nutrition and Physical Exercise expertise)
Or:
The CPD Certificate in Holistic Counselling and Lifestyle Coaching – (Coaching Specialism: Diet, Nutrition and Physical Exercise expertise)
~~~
This certificate, with either the Coaching or Counselling Specialism endorsement, will entitle you to Associate Membership of the Institute for Emotive-Cognitive Embodied Narrative Therapy (E-CENT) Institute with the post-nominal letters AM-ECENT.
The basic structure of the course is as follows:
This is a self-directed, distance-learning course.
Participants buy a copy of one set book (How to Control Your Anger, Anxiety and Depression: Using nutrition and physical exercise, by Renata Taylor-Byrne and Jim Byrne).
The set book has six parts.
The participant reads part one, and identifies three key points which stand out for them. They teach those three points to three individuals (friends, associates, family members, or counselling or coaching clients). They reflect upon those nine (three times three) teaching experiences, and write up their thoughts in a journal or diary. (The time guideline for this, and each of the other five parts of the book, is one month to six weeks per part).
Next, when the participant is ready for oral assessment, they arrange a supervision session with Dr Jim Byrne, via Skype. The assessment is conducted in this way because our experience has taught us that many very good counsellors and coaches are not particularly keen on academic assessment processes; and oral assessment is more in keeping with the ethos of counselling and coaching.
Since there are six parts to the book, the total cost of the course is 6 x £50 = £300, paid over a six to nine month period, with the possibility of some extensions.
When the assessor is satisfied with the progress of the participant through the six stages of learning, a certificate will be produced and sent by ‘signed for’ mail (where available) to the participant’s home or office.
